Fort William (PH33)
The largest town in Lochaber, with a mix of Victorian terraces, post-war semis and modern estates. South-facing roofs on the Lochyside and Inverlochy areas get good daylight. Shading from Ben Nevis affects properties on the north side of town — we assess this during survey.
Caol (PH33)
A residential area on the shore of Loch Linnhe. Predominantly post-war semis and bungalows with predominantly slate roofs. Coastal exposure means we specify corrosion-resistant fixings. Good solar orientation with minimal shading from the open loch side.
Corpach (PH33)
Located at the head of Loch Linnhe near the Caledonian Canal lock. Mix of traditional stone cottages and modern housing. Properties near the canal basin may have limited roof access — our survey covers this. The paper mill area has some larger properties suitable for bigger arrays.
Banavie (PH33)
Situated near Neptune's Staircase on the Caledonian Canal. Mostly detached and semi-detached homes with open aspects. The canal-side location means relatively unobstructed solar access. Some properties have Loch Linnhe views with excellent south-facing potential.
Spean Bridge (PH34)
A rural village at the junction of the A86 and A82. Housing ranges from croft houses to modern builds. Properties in the glen may experience shading from surrounding hills. Off-gas-grid homes here are strong candidates for solar plus battery and heat pump combinations.
Roy Bridge (PH31)
A small community in the Roy Valley. Predominantly rural crofts and detached homes, many off the gas grid. Solar plus battery storage is well-suited here, particularly for properties relying on oil or electric heating. Shading from the Grey Corries can be a factor for north-bank properties.
Glencoe (PH49)
A world-famous glen with National Trust and conservation area designations. Traditional stone cottages andmountain properties. In-roof or low-profile mounting systems are often appropriate to respect the heritage landscape. Planning sensitivity is higher here — we advise on the right approach.
Ballachulish (PH49)
A former slate quarrying village at the mouth of Glencoe. Mix of former quarry workers' cottages and modern homes. The slate roof heritage means some properties need careful mounting specification. Good solar potential on south-facing slopes above the loch.
Kinlochleven (PH50)
A former aluminium smelting village at the end of the Mamore range. Predominantly 20th-century housing built for the smelter workers. The valley location means shorter winter solar days — battery storage helps maximise the long summer daylight hours. Some grid capacity considerations apply.
Mallaig (PH40)
A fishing port at the terminus of the West Highland Line. Coastal salt spray requires marine-grade aluminium frames and corrosion-resistant fixings for all installations. Predominantly terraced and semi-detached housing. Good solar orientation with open sea views to the south and west.
Arisaig (PH39)
A coastal village on the Road to the Isles. Mix of crofts, holiday cottages and permanent homes. Many properties are off-gas-grid. The coastal location and open aspects provide excellent solar potential. Holiday let owners can benefit from solar to cover year-round baseline energy costs.
